Marriage Mentoring

The Marriage Mentoring Ministry at Heritage trains many married couples to work with those who are beginning the premarital process. Led by directors Al and Wendy Gilbert, mentors share their life experiences and give their love and time to better prepare couples for a life long marriage that will go the distance...turning the divorce rate around!

Psalm 37:4-6 "Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday."

The Marriage Mentoring Team

Al and Wendy Gilbert have been married 16-years. Al has four children, Sean, Troy, Autumn, and Chrystal. Together they have been blessed with three grandsons, Aidan, Brandon, and Justin, and two granddaughters, Katelyn & McKenzie.

The Gilbert’s work with married couples who are struggling, since they have known the pain of divorce. We have been a part of the Heritage Family for over 20-years…we met and married here. God has called us to marriage ministry and is using our broken backgrounds for His glory!

David and Sharleen Blake

Married 32-years; two children, David, Jr., and Jeff; three grandchildren, Jeff, Melanie, & Connor. In twenty-nine years of marriage, God has been with us in the good times and the tough times. He has helped us to grow in our love for each other and especially our love for Him. Today, we can pass on what we have learned to couples who are about to go on their journey of marriage.

David and Karen Cole

David and Karen Cole have been attending Heritage for more than 12 years and have three children, Jeffrey, Eden and Caleb.  We were one of the first couples to be mentored at Heritage 11+ years ago so we have benefited from this ministry. Our marriage was saved and our family restored by the grace of God and the dedication of our mentor couple. We look forward to working with other couples. "How can two walk together unless they are agreed?" Amos 3:3

Paul and Cindy Ellison

We have been married for 20 years and have been attending Heritage for 18 years. We have a beautiful baby girl who was given to us by the Lord on 11-18-07, her name is Maylin Renee. We thank God for the opportunity to help others in their life-long commitment.

Marion and Shirley Gaither

Married 36-years; three children, Langela, Avery, & Tirren.  Gen. 28:14 "And the seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shall spread abroad to west, and to the east, and to the north and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed."

Lenny & Tammie Pettersen

We have been married for 28 years and have two adult children, Krista, a graduate of Lee University and Shaun, a United States Marine.  Our ministry involves mentoring couples committed to growing and strengthening their marriages and overcoming the "bumps in the road" that occur in every marriage.  

Phil and Karen Stillman

Married 31-years; four children; four grandchildren.  We appreciate the opportunity to be involved with the marriage mentoring program and believe it is an important ministry for today’s society.
